Is it fair to change a school's mascot?

The graded school in my town got a new principal at the beginning of this school year. I've never met this principal but from what i've heard of her she's really really strict but i guess kinda nice. The schools mascot is a bulldog and she wants to change it because she thinks a bulldog means like a bully kind of. I understand how she thinks that but other schools mascots are even "meaner" than a bulldog you know. To me and probably alot of other people too, a mascot is like a tradition like something you dont mess with. So i dont think she should change it.
