Pkm mystery dungeon explorers of sky? there's something i don't understand about sentry duty?

how can looking at a pokemons footprint tell you if the pokemon is bad or not? lol its just so stupid 'oh lets set up a sentry post and look at pokemons feet, by doing that we'll know if there bad or not' i bet wigglytuff came out that idea lol
